KING JESUS and the Upside-Down Kingdom, with Andrés Pérez
John 18:33-37
This Sunday we gather to celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. Christ is the most high King of the entire universe and yet also King of our hearts and calls us brothers and sisters. In doing this, Jesus models a new way of being human and invites us to become part of a new type of kingdom, one not of this world. This is an upside-down Kingdom of peace, in which the borders that separated humankind are rendered meaningless. (Mendoza, JEMRS, 1920. Bruxy, Reunion, p.121-130, 2017).

  1. What does it mean to you to accept as gospel that Jesus is King? How does that (or can that) change your life?
  2. Read the following quote: “The gospel is less about how to get into the Kingdom of Heaven after you die, and more about how to live in the Kingdom of Heaven before you die.” - Dallas Willard. What does this mean? Discuss with others.
  3. When you discover that the gospel also proclaims the implications of the kingdom now (on earth), how does that apply today in political and social contexts?
  4. Jesus said the kingdom of God is (not will be) within you (plural, not singular). In other words, the kingdom of God is between us as persons and within our relationships. It is, in Jesus’ words, “in your midst” (Luke 17:21). Have you experienced the kingdom of God recently? Talk about examples.
  5. If you are a Christian, how does being a citizen of Christ’s kingdom influence how you live? How does being an ambassador for this kingdom alter how you live?
  6. What does it mean to “bear witness” to Jesus’ kingship in word and deed?
  7. How would you share the gospel’s purpose and its impact in your life to others?

Our building is fully accessible from the parking lot. We have an elevator entrance from the parking/ground level that services the Upper and Lower floors and a fully accessible washroom on the upper/main level.
